Hey-ho - starting chair throw 2

chair throw2 designI wanted to start another RUG but DH wants another couple of throws. So the design is drawn. (Interesting optical illusion - the design seems to skew anticlockwise, even when it’s snapshotted straight on!)

A bit wider and longer is the request - so 802 ends are wound on the mill and chained ready for threading. (Alpaca and Shetland wool in browns and silver-grey) I guess spare time next week will be for threading.

Crinkle scarves-warping up the loom

warping up crinkle scarves

This photograph shows some of the warp threads for the crinkle scarves shown on my product pages, as they are being wound onto the back of the loom. In fact, there are two sets of warp threads for these scarves- these are just the cotton warp ends, which are wound and beamed separately from the wool warp ends and then all the ends are threaded through the heddles and reed together. Without being toooooo technical, this is the hard work of weaving-planning the number, length and arrangement of the warps and the physical task of getting them all on the loom in the right order and at the correct tension. Only then can the actual weaving begin!
